Design, Engineering and Construction Management Services for a Municipal Water System
To keep pace with a rapidly growing population, The City of Hutto contracted DCS to upgrade their municipal water supply. DCS proposed a dual approach solution, increasing water supply and reducing system headloss by allowing additional flow.
Phase I of the project included the construction of a 3-mile water distribution line, running parallel to the existing Heart of Texas (HOT) transmission line along Hwy 79, between TX-95 and FM-973. Phase II of the project included the construction of a 1.65-mile waterline south of Hwy 79, with pipe diameters ranging from 16” to 30”.
Project challenges included major utility pipeline conflicts, high voltage overhead power lines, easement acquisition, and coordination between stakeholders with several levels of governmental oversight. Additional construction challenges included the installation of steel casing pipe via bore and jack under a Union Pacific Railroad line.
